Timesavers

A few ideas for saving valuable time for what's really important:

DECIDE YOUR PRIORITIES
If we fill a jar with rocks, pebbles and sand, the rocks represent our priorities and should go in first, otherwise, if we put the sand in first, there is no room for them. Similarly, if we don't know what our goals are, what's important to us, by default we will be wasting time messing around with the small stuff, what's not so important, represented by the sand and pebbles.

So, it's a good idea to decide in writing what is important for reasons above.

GOOD HABITS AND ROUTINES
Regulated living is a very important way to save time, rewarded by the time saved.

Make a realistic schedule that includes inevitable interruptions and time for breaks.

ACTIVE VISITING
I've learned that when I have visitors, I don’t have to be idle. I can hem a choile, knit a sock, mend a tear, pod peas...

HOLIDAYS VS HOLY DAYS
If you don’t care for the karmi holidays, bow out. This saves time and energy to make Vaisnava holy days even more special.

COMBINE ERRANDS
Before going out to a store, ask yourself whether you need to do/purchase anything else along the way?

THE ASSEMBLY LINE METHOD- It helps to break a job into steps, doing one repetitive step at a time. This way avoids having to switch gears in the brain too often, thus saving time. Here's a simple example: When preparing a bunch of apples, first wash them, then peel them, then chop them, then core them rather than doing all these steps for each individual apple.

GIFT CARDS
Shop online first to see what the store line generally carries. Next, call to see if what you want is available.
If not, you can special order first before taking the trouble to visit the store.

DITTO LIBRARY
Before a trip to a library, check online what books you want and what is available.

SAVING TIME FOR KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS
Everything takes time and sometimes much more than we initially expect. Before beginning a new activity, it's a good idea to consider first, “ Is this activity really worth the time it will take?", while accepting whatever is favorable and rejecting whatever is unfavorable for devotional service..

With the time saved, we can utilize it for Krishna consciousness.

"The greatest loss in life is passing time without understanding Krishna. Every moment of our lives should be utilized properly, and the proper use of life is to increase devotional service to the Lord. Without devotional service to the Lord, the activities of life become simply a waste of time."--SB 4.27.3p
