Normally, men hold women in high regard, as if on a pedestal because of a sense of chivalry. And what a disappointment if they should fall to a man's level. Therefore, a chaste lady does not like speaking casually to men other than her husband or parading around in front of a group of men or even conversing as equals, not because she feels less than they. It's because it's beneath her dignity. It feels demeaning.
